Best Drones Under $200

Best Drones Under $200

With a large number of consumer drones out today, you can be quite overwhelming if you’re only starting out. When choosing your first drone, there are many factors to take into account, but the main thing to consider is the price. I personally would not recommend buying a drone costing more than $200 if it’s your first. The main reason being that it might just be a phase. You wouldn’t want to spend $1000+ on the best drone, only to fly it a couple of times before you become bored. Start with a cheaper quad that’s more suitable to starter pilots, and once you’ve passed the beginner phase, you’re all set to upgrade later on. So below are what I consider to be the best drones under $200.

Although they are not as advanced as higher class quads, these drones are still capable of providing some of the benefits that their more expensive counterparts can. So in order to determine the best drones under $200, I took into account all the pros and cons, features, camera, and more.

It is also a helpful feature for most beginners since this will allow the drone to hover by itself in case the user will have a hard time in dealing with the controller’s functions. On top of that, the drone comes with the agility mode that enables it to provide faster-flying speeds and increased maneuverability when activated.

But out of the three, the BLADE Nano QX RTF Quadcopter can be regarded as the best option despite its higher price compared to the other two since it is loaded with a lot of impressive features that a good drone is expected to provide. The Syma X11C RC Quadcopter is the second best option since it offers some of the features provided by the Blade at a much lower price. Finally, the DBPOWER Hawkeye-I Quadcopter can be the third best choice since it is equipped with all the generic features that a good drone under $200 is expected to provide.

Of course, in the end, it all comes down to personal taste, and whichever drone you choose, I’m sure you’ll have loads of fun! Obviously, you won’t be getting as much out of these as you would with a Phantom 3, for instance, but as tempting as it can be sometimes to go for the more expensive drones from the start, I would highly recommend starting small, and cheap, and give it time to see if this the beginning of a new hobby or just a phase.

  • Hi. This is a very interesting blog post. The reviews on here are thorough and set out clearly the pros and cons for buying the products offered here. What I found worrying is how most of the drones here don’t come with a warranty. Is this because of the high likelihood of the drone crashing from the sky especially is you are new to flying drones? I still think a product like this with so many moving parts should be covered by some sort of warranty. It is a big spend and it’s what is putting me off buying!

    • Hi Gary,

Thanks for your feedback! I can’t speak for all drones, but I checked with a couple and I’ve noticed that you can request warranty directly from the manufacturer, rather than from Amazon. I’m not actually sure why this is the case, and I can understand why this may put you off. There may be some that include a warranty, and this will definitely be something I’ll look out for and include in my further reviews.

  • Duude drones are soo cool :O I really love these reviews. They’re very detailed and thorough explained, which really makes me wanna get one! I am definitely going to bookmark this page. I might come back to get one one day 😉 Whether it’s for myself or as a gift, i would love to buy a drone or two some time.

    • Hey Daniel, thanks so much! What I love about drones is that they really do make great gifts, without having to spend too much!

  • I quite like the idea of these devices and my son’s well into them as well. The problem I’ve got is the negative press they’ve recieved recently in my country Wales, UK. I was also told that at some point now I might even have to register my drone? Do you know if this is correct?

  • I’ve been in the market to purchase a Quadcopter for a while and I’ve been searching around for some of them and this is the first page I’ve come across that has mini drone reviews. The BLADE Nano QX RTF Quadcopter seems like it is really cool but it isn’t available for international shipping so ill rule that one out. The Syma X11C RC Quadcopter seems to be really cool with the light up feature. The DBPOWER Hawkeye-I Quadcopter seems to be very versatile. these all seem like really cool cheap drones dont get me wrong but all in all I think I would look else where because id want a bigger drone with 4K.

  • David,
Hi there, I have had a couple of these smaller drones before settling on a DJi Phantom 3 Professional and compared the the cheaper and smaller ones, I found the phantom heaps easier to operate. I was glad to experiment with the cheaper drone until I realised that I wanted a better one and was pleasantly surprised to find that if you spend the money, you end up with a very quality product.
Which of these reviewed would you say is the easiest to operate?
    Thanks, Kris

    • Hey Kris,
In my experience, the Phantom is one of the smoothest quads I’ve flown. But when it comes to these smallest ones, I really enjoyed the Blade Nano.
      Thanks for commenting, mate!

  • This flies really well and we had a lot of fun with it….for about a day, then all the propellers were broken. So if you get this, make sure you have a bunch of extra propellers. We need to buy some more so we can enjoy this again since it really did fly well.
